Dr. J. William Doane, Senior Advisor
Dr. Doane is a world-renowned expert in liquid crystal technology. He is an original co-founder of Kent Displays, Inc., which he started in 1993 with William Manning. He holds over 25 patents, has written over 240 publications, and has led 58 research grants and contracts.
Dr. Doane was part of the initial effort to establish the National Science Foundation’s Center for Advanced Liquid Crystalline Optical Materials, known today as ALCOM. An active member of the international science community, Dr. Doane was instrumental in forming the International Liquid Crystal Society and served as their treasurer from 1990 to 1996. He acted as Visiting Professor at the University of South Wales, the Australian National University, and the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.
Dr. Doane served in teaching or administrative positions at Kent State University from 1965 to 1996. He currently acts as Professor Emeritus for the Department of Physics and Chemical Physics and Director Emeritus for the Liquid Crystal Institute. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a B.S. and Ph.D. in Physics.
